“Bumpin’ some Coltrane and getting sentimental”
What do you get when you combine an 80s-inspired instrumental signed by Lars B with Bergen rap and Aarhusian poetry? The answer is a tasteful banger where rappers Simon Alejandro, Sean Lightfoot and Stupac each describe the way they perceive what an "Underground Samurai" really is.
Simon Alejandro kicks off the party with lines like "Bumpin’ some Coltrane and getting sentimental", a clear evocation of the mood about to strike.
Sean Lightfoot is one of Denmark's sharpest underground rappers and is currently collaborating with artists such as Shatter Hands and Pufuleti. Stupac, also known as Sturla Kverneng - the drummer from the Bergen rock band Hvitmalt Gjerde - is currently based in Dubai and is with this track making his official rap debut.
Simon Alejandro and Sean Lightfoot met through the club culture a few years ago, while Simon and Sturla have sporadically rapped together since 2011. The song was recorded at the Møhlenpris (neighborhood in Bergen) during Christmas of 2020.
The Lars B characteristics are front and center in this slow and solid instrumental, where the synth on the chorus sounds like it was taken straight from a GTA-soundtrack, interspersed with a cheeky dub-inspired echo on the vocals.
“Undergrunn Samurai” is Simon's second single from his upcoming solo album ‘’Unge Colombia'' (meaning Young Colombia in Norwegian), which is to be released by Jungelen in March 2022.
